Save Stingray City.

I have no idea what the Cayman government thinks they’re doing. This is the most outrageous idea I’ve heard in a long time. I remember going on a field trip to Stingray City when I was a kid and hearing from teachers all about the beautiful sanctuary for stingrays. And they are willing to throw this sanctuary away for a cheap, cheesy floating bar? This will not only endanger the animals and pollute the water, but I guarantee it will be detrimental for tourism. Bars can be found anywhere; if somebody wants to drink at the beach, they can go have a few at Rum Point and then go for a swim. When I tell friends here in Canada about Stingray City, it is one of the major things that separates Cayman from other Caribbean tourist destinations. It is a genuine attraction, not a cheap attempt to get tourists to spend more money on booze. You can find pool bars and/or floating bars elsewhere, but Stingray City is truly a part of Cayman, and the government has completely lost it if they think that it’s even close to a good idea to dump a bar on top of it.

I would never support anything - tourist attraction or otherwise - that is going to endanger the wildlife of the island. This was their home first, let’s respect that. The amount of spillage and garbage that is going to come out of that floating bar can only hurt the animals and pollute our beautiful Cayman water. Why would anybody want to support that?
